Mountains, canyons and rivers
Jan-Feb : Trek/descente de riviere, Isalo-Onilahy-Tulear.
From 4 persons.
17 days Tana-Tulear
Two Lezards, ,it ain't a killer but the trek is sometimes
hot!
Leaving from Tananarive by RN7.
First stop in Ambositra. 4-5 h of windy paved road through
highlands scenery.
On the road south, a typical scene.
We leave the rickshaws of Antsirabe behind to discover Ambositra, the Village
of Roses , Capital of arts and crafts. The village is well known for its
wood sculptures.
Seconth day takes us to Ranohira. 8 h of well and beautiful paved road.
The landscape change is drastic and sunny on most of it !
i know it's a long stretch but we will have lunch in a nice reserve packed
with Catta lemurs.

The tapia which looks a little like a small oak are relatively fire resistant
Next day we set off early for the southern part of the Isalo.
We leave civilisation between sandstone mesas and tapias (local oak) forests
towards the Isalo canyons.
Few villages on this trail and a great finish in Benenitra.
Our well trained porters team, the key to successin Malagasy backcountry
It's 8 days to Benenitra, a big village on the side of Onilahy.
Some of those light traps are really eye catching
We work our way south towards deep and narrow canyons, bare
foot in streams or baking on white sand under lemurs, chameleons and local
sheperds surveillance.
I recommend sandals for this dry but wet trek Local cook & cooker made
from termites mound
From there we embark on our raft and float calmly through
beautiful forests and countryside

I love those narrow sections carved by the high water fury
Three days from St Augustin, we cross the road from Tulear to Fort Dauphin
but Tongobory ain't much bigger than Benenitra and this contact with civilisation
is very short !…
There's not always as much water, so enjoy it!
A bit further (2 days) we arrive in St Augustin after visiting the 7 sacred
lakes.
You will deserve a couple of days to relax on the Mozambique channel in Anakao,
a real bed and a table to eat, sheer luxury after two weeks of slow drifting.
