GEAR
REVIEW !
IN THE FIELD! THE NON DIPLOMATIC SECTION!
|
<< which would you test ?? >> |
 |
Totally independant from any makers, I feel free to criticize
whatever I feel like!..
Up to now, solely The French Rope maker BEAL and the Italian
Gear maker KONG had responded to my sollicitations. Many
thanks to them, to trust in the future of climbing in Madagascar.
Although it doesn't mean that I won't say what has to be
said if it is deserved.
Whatever I use, I'll let you know what I think of it and
I think that my life style is a perfect test for gear.
What I would really appreciate would be to receive gear
for destruction. Push the stuff to their limits and check
it out. take the stuff out of design rooms and out of engineer's
hand and take them out on the malagasy field.
It's a lot of work and I'll do it on occasions, adding new
items on my way, expecting reactions and corruption from
the biggest manufacturers, ....
If you have some infos to share, write me, I might add it
on line.
Madamax.
Ca laisse encore un paquet de matériel utilisé et quand il
s'agit de matériel de sécurité, la critique se doit d'être
constructive!

The CATS of JACK'S PLASTIC!
Super gear
Super well done and well designed. I discovered those great
boats just a year ago and already floated them over a thousand
miles of mainly unknown rivers.
Superb expeditions on the East (Onibe, Mananjary), great
rivers on the west (Mangoky) and every river of Imerina.
I'vbe had the occasion to submit them to intense stress and
they reacted perfectly well.
That's exactly what I needed for my malagasy descents. Their
maneuvrability and rusticity seduced me and I barely imagine
pulling out my heavy weighted rafts again

One hour for assembly! Certainly not the first
time!.......
Especially on the unknown rivers, it is a great advantage to be able
to stop a few meters from the drops perfectly safe, allowing good recos
without landing on every occasion.
Rapids go easy and they cut through the waves swiftly. They don't get
pulled back in most situations and surprisingly can endure relatively
strong waters sideways. Of course, once loaded for a week long expedition
they become less stable and needs to be kept in the line of current.
Portages are easily handled by two solid guys with a full expe load.
Without gear they are really light and handled by anybody.
If you want to check out more pics, look on the Crocos
site, they're
real stars.

Perfect example of the local style! Hire two robust countrymen
and shot the portage!... .

Camping and Logistics!
The Not So Pleasant Topic!
What an ambitious subject! That means a lot of gear to speak of, a lot of pages to spit
out.

Tilley Hats |
The Best Outdoors Hat In The World!?
Material worned out by too much sun and energic washing.
Light corrosion
on the brass are the major drawbacks
Tilley company is based in Canada and specialised in Outdoors and sport clothing.
Their goal of excellence is very high and they can be proud of it.
However they might overdo it a little when they give you a life guarantee
on their hat. They even suggest to put it on your will. It is already
a little bit weird to buy a hat with an 8 page notice of use, but a life
guarantee, ...
You can find them on www.tilley.com
I'll try to get mine replaced and will let you know if they stick to
their words or behave as smart marketeers!
Well the best outdoors hat in the world lasted 5 years of intensive
and extensive country abuse. Not too bad in regard to the Giga watts
of sun it endured as long as a good size pond of sweat.
The solid brit brass did not really appreciate sea water and corrosion
appeared lightly on it.
What I really enjoyed was the small foam cap! It does prevent the hat
from drowning on numerous occasions and protected my head
from minor hits through the bush.
Electronics!
Ca devient un peu plus sélectif et particulier comme équipement. De plus,
on peut pas dire que les traitements infligés à ce type d'équipement
sur le terrain, soit particulièrement adapté, ... Ca me rend
pas plus indulgent ! Au contraire, le moindre défaut signifie
immanquablement une
durée de vie
écourtée.
